1974-75 Butler Girls 1st Team

In response to TITLE IX legislation, Butler started a girls basketball team for the 1974-75 season. They played an exhibition schedule against KNOCH, MARS, SHARON AND FARRRELL. They were coached by SUE BENJAMIN-PARISI(who now owns an insurance agency in Butler) and FAYE STEVING. They had only one win but learned a lot and set the stage for a very successful run into the early 80’s. LISA ZITALONE, who is now Butler’s 7th All-Time career leading scorer was a freshman on that team. Four(4) years later Butler had its 1st playoff team which was the WPIAL RUNNERUP that year.

Two other notable members of that team were Nate Snodgrass’s Mom, Ann Kotch and current Butler girls Senior, Morgan McLaughlin’s Mom, Margie Leyland.

1975-76 Butler Girls 2nd Team

The 2nd year of girls basketball improved dramatically to 9 wins. Two of Butler’s future career all-time leading scorers joined the team. JODY IMBRIE and LISA SCOTT were freshmen in 1976. Returning letterwomen that year were KIM McCARTHY, MARY SPAGNOLA, SHARON SCHOFIELD and DIANNE RIDER.

SAUNDRA ZITALONE, mother of current tornado senior CAITLYN BAXTER, began her playing career that year.

1976-77 Butler Girls 3rd Team
We are looking for information on this team.
1977-78 Butler Girls 4th Team(1st playoff team)

The startup building program came to fruition this year as Butler, lead by Senior Lisa Zitalone and Juniors Jody Imbrie and Lisa Scott lead Butler to an overall 21-4 record. Those 3 players are on Butlers all-time career scoring list. Butler lost in the WPIAL championship game and won a 1st round PIAA game.

1978-79 Butler Girls 5th Team(2nd playoff team)
Jody Imbrie and Lisa Scott returned to lead this team to a section championship and into the WPIAL semi-finals. They were coached by Faye Steving and went 23-6. They lost in 1st round of PIAA tournament.
