Coach Matt Clement Bio

Coach Matt Clement is beginning his fourth year as head coach of the Butler Golden Tornado Boy’s Basketball team. After a sixteen year professional baseball career, Coach Clement returns to his hometown to fulfill his life-long dream of coaching Butler basketball. Coach Clement enters his second season with a great deal of optimism, as he returns key starters from last year’s team. Up-tempo, fast breaking, and “hard-nose” defense are trademarks of his Butler Golden Tornado basketball teams.

Coach Clement was born and raised in Butler and attended Butler High School from 1989-1993. He was a standout point guard on two WPIAL Section 3 Championship teams (’92&’93). The 1993 team was the WPIAL runner-up. During the 1993 season, Matt was selected as all WPIAL Class AAAA first team all-star, member of the Roundball Classic team and the Post Gazette North “Fab-Five” All Star. Coach Clement was recruited by several Division I schools to play college basketball. That dream was interrupted by a sixteen year baseball career, highlighted by being a member of the 2005 American league All Star team and 2007 World Champion Boston Redsox team.

Since retiring from baseball, Coach Clement has been very active in the Butler sport’s programs and looks forward to the challenge of leading the Butler Boy’s Basketball Team to contending for a Section 3 titles and eventually successful runs in the playoffs.

Coach Clement continues to reside in Butler and is married to Heather (Miller) and has three sons and a daughter.
